stage 3
12AM.
this stage will focus on life late at night, previewing images of empty streets, lone walkers, and a quiet environment.

CRITICAL LINK.
rut blees usually captures an empty landscape, lacking any sign of life or movement. by doing this, her images are mostly up to interpretation, allowing you to create a story and use your imagination within the image. "the spaces are very real, but at the same time they’re also a portal into the imagination and that includes the imagination of different possibilities. on the one hand, the city is build up of layers of history. on the other hand, the city is always in a state of emergence, so what are the premonitions or what are the possibilities this space we share can evoke and enable?"
an empty space allows the photographer to interpret the space captured in whichever way they wish, for example if they wish the image to have a gloomy effect, a fear of isolation and loneliness, the empty space can represent that, and presenting the image in black & white will remove any bold distractions or colourful elements which may evoke feelings of happiness, to present their desired effect on the viewer.

I CAPTURED THIS IMAGE WHILST DRIVING THROUGH THE STREETS OF NEW YORK IN THE BACK OF A TAXI. THE WINDOW ACTS AS A FRAME TO THE BUSY ATMOSPHERE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE.

THIS IMAGES CAPTURES EACH INDIVIDUAL LIFE LIVING WITHIN EACH APARTMENT ROOM, EACH WITH A DIFFERENT ATMOSPHERE, WORKING DIFFERENT JOBS, LIVING SEPERATE LIVES, VIEWED WITH A GLIMPSE FROM A LOWER PERSPECTIVE. THIS IMAGE USES REPETITION, WITH MULTIPLE SAME-SIZED WINDOWS EMITTING LIGHT INTO THE DARK ATMOSPHERE.

the single light on emphasising the feeling of being alone, being awake whilst everyone else is sleeping. it exerts the feeling of insomnia, the city sleeps however you remain wide awake. the window is the main focus of the image.

the light emitting from the windows in the darkness stand out the most in this image. it emphasises impact, with each person sitting alone in each room, but being watched by thousands from the ground.

& SELECTIONS
I chose to use selective colour to alter the colour of the light coming from each window, and also to highlight singular lights from windows, emphasising individuality.
